the logic of subduction

The Logic of Subduction, an exhibition that travelled internationally from 2011 through 2014 addressed the expectation of eventual blindness. This multi-layered sculpture and video installation provided a visceral sense of my own experience centred around the task of reading, and it evoked reactions to the anticipation of catastrophic loss. Throughout the exhibition, various pieces contained phrases that were repeatedly etched into the surface of books, cut from pages, and transferred onto walls. The audience could not rely on their prior knowledge of how to read and were instead tasked with making their own sense of a seemingly chaotic yet poetically ordered experience.
